Christmas Eve at Sakuramachi 2012

As is tradition, we celebrated Christmas Eve at the Koganei Catholic Church with 5, 7 and 9 o’clock Mass.  During the 7 o’clock Mass the parishioners and sisters held a carol service in Sakuramachi Hospital and Hospice.  Despite the cold weather outdoors the patients welcomed us warmly.

Pray for Japan DVD showing

The congregation aired the DVD after the 10am Mass for the local parishioners and sisters who hadn’t been able to watch it the previous week.

150 anniversary of the Consecration of the Yokohama Catholic Church

A talk and thanksgiving Mass was held on 24th November in the Yokohama Diocese to celebrate the 150 year of the consecration of the Yokohama Catholic Church and the re-opening of the Japanese mission. Over 4,000 attended  from parishes of the Kanagawa, Shizuoka, Yamanashi, Nagano prefectures of the Yokohama Diocese.

160 of the chalices and ciboriums on the alter were made by people residing at our Fuji St. John’s Facility.

Sisters’ Prayer Relay for the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake and for the recovery of the region

Our turn of the Sisters’ Relay was held between the 11-17th November.  The Relay began with the viewing of the DVD and was celebrated each day with evening prayers before the Blessed Sacrament, ten Hail Marys and 10 mins of meditation.  A special Mass was said on the Wednesday.  Each day a special slide show was played depicting the damage and the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami.

Graveside visit in Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed

The month of November is dedicated to the Souls in Purgatory, whose feast is celebrated on November 2 and All Saints on the 1st. And as is customary, we pay a visit to the congregation’s grave.
